Free videos for couples therapists on how to assess for sex issues
Martha Kauppi is a sex therapist that is in my Bader Pearson training at the Couples Institute. She has a training for couples therapists on how to support clients with sex issues. I took the course and it was excellent. It really increased my confidence in working with sex issues when I am not trained specifically as a sex therapist. If you are interested in learning about this she has a free two part video series on her website that offers a basic assessment called the WILL LILY. You will be able to immediately identify what sex issues need referral and where to refer. Here’s a link to Martha’s website. You will see the sign up for the free videos at the top of her page.

I am interested in starting a discussion on this topic. When working as a relationship counsellor do you feel that you are confident and well equipped to deal with sex issues or do you feel that this is stressful, anxiety provoking, etc? When I moved from being a mediator to a therapist I immediately identified that sex was an area I would need further training in as couples who are separating do not generally explore their sex or sexuality in mediation, but it is very much a part of the content matter of counselling. I started seeking to fill this gap. If you have any suggestions of courses you would recommend I would love to hear about them. What did you like about this particular course? How did it impact your work and your ability to be successful in offering effective and supportive interventions with your couples? Etc Etc Etc. I would love to hear whatever you want to share about this topic as it is an ongoing area of exploration for me.
