Remote counselling – benefits and drawbacks?

On another social media platform, some counsellors were having a conversation about the benefits and drawbacks they were seeing after practicing remotely for over a month now. Have you seen benefits with clients? What are they? What are the drawbacks or stumbling blocks for you so far?

    Hi Marci,

I do believe the benefits are greater than drawbacks. I do mostly tele counselling and have over 20 years experience in different modalities. (I do not do email counselling so I can not speak to that). With tele, rapport comes quickly and efficiently. Clients get right to the heart of the manner in a way they do not in in-person sessions. Just my thoughts. The one area where tele is, I think, too complicated is family sessions with more than two clients. The flow of conversation is more difficult the more people that are on the line. Just my thoughts, feel free to share. Happy to see this discussion on here.

Heather do you know how to find accredited counsellors that do remote counselling internationally? I’m looking for someone to do counselling for a youth with an eating disorder in Europe.
