Activity # 1: Models of Supervision
- Which of the supervision models covered in this module resonates most with you, and why? Definitely an integrative approach, likely because this is also how I practice as a clinician. I like pieces from each of the Psychotherapy based models, specifically focusing on the experience of the Supervisee in the in ‘Supervisee-centered Psychodynamic model’/Person-centered model, empowering the supervisee through the Feminist model, and the teaching aspects of the ‘Cognitive-Behavioural model. I prefer to use an integrative approach in my practice as a therapist, and as a supervisor. I think that it’s important to have a variety of tools in our toolbelt and understand that there are various ways to get to a desired outcome. What might work for one supervisee may not work the same for another. This is why I believe that it is important to have a good understanding of all of the models/frameworks available and to be able to identify which components/parts of each serve us in our practice (and more importantly, serve our client/supervisee. I like this about Bernards Discrimination Model; the Supervisor may take different roles and foci depending on the needs of the session, or issue at hand.
