I resonated with two of the clinical supervision models, which were the Cyclical Model of clinical supervision (Page and Wosket, 2010) alongside the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision (Hawkins and Shohet, 2000).

First of all, in general, life is quite cyclical in nature, relationships, and likewise in therapy, so a cyclical model reflects these natural processes. I appreciated the step by step approach model took which is helpful for structuring supervision. However, I also appreciated the attention to the matrixes and modes of the seven-eyed model as it provided a lot of information about what to look for in each mode, which at this point I find very useful as a guide. When I begin to supervise counsellors, then I will be able to reference this model, and see what areas I tend to focus on and what gaps may occur. This will help me to self-evaluate and work on areas that come less naturally.

You provide strong rationale for the integrated model you propose, I look forward to seeing you try this out in practice. I can be helpful to be explicit and share your approach with supervisees, and helps you be balanced and intentional in your practice. Regarding the 7-eyed model, currently which ‘eye’ are you most comfortable with and which one do you want to engage with more?

Thanks Meg! I think that Mode 7 is one that I like to focus on, as it gives a more broader context to the client’s experience, as well as considering ethics, place of work and the world in general and how it impacts therapy! In addition, Mode 5 is something that I will be thinking about more and how I can gather and garner feedback about how the supervision is being received and how it can be improved or adjusted.
